Online Dating Fake News

How do you make the best choices when dating online? We have written about everything from dating advice from grandma to dating advice from the crowd in which one uses an app to gather dating advice from complete strangers! Now the online dating site eHarmony has advertised that they use science to help people find love. Business Insider reports that eHarmony has been forced to take down its advertising in the London Underground. The ad was referred to as fake news.

The ad, which appeared on the London Underground, features the text: “Step aside, fate. It’s time science had a go at love.” It continues:

“Imagine being able to stack the odds of finding lasting love entirely in your favour. eHarmony’s scientifically proven matching system decodes the mystery of compatibility and chemistry so you don’t have to. Why leave the most important search of your life to chance? Try something different today. Join eharmony.co.uk.”

The dating site uses a compatibility matching algorithm in order to match users, taking into account responses to questionnaires on personality traits, values, and interests.

It turns out that the odds are not that much higher with eHarmony of ending up with the right person and developing a happy relationship than when meeting someone in various social settings. Does that mean that online dating does not help you find the love of your life?

The Right Tools and What You Do With Them

What is the point of online dating? We have noted that online dating is like speed dating in that you can meet a lot of people whom you might not otherwise meet. And you can meet people who are more likely to fit your profile of the sort of person you would want to fall in love with and spend your life with. But when you meet someone in online dating what are next steps? Do you want to meet the right person and develop a happy relationship or is you goal sex on the first date? If you have not decided if you want sex or a relationship this may be the issue that prevents you from ending up with the right person to spend your life with. And if when you start going steady with someone and you have disagreements do you want to win the fight or keep the relationship.

What do you do when you become angry at the person whom you love? You had a hot first date. Things were going well and then both of you have become angry about something or other. What do you do? Do you pick a fight or sulk? Do you go on the attack or give him or her the cold shoulder? Do you want to win the fight or keep the relationship? This article has to do with the disagreements, irritations and outright fights that occur in relationships. There is such a thing as always fighting to win and such a thing as fighting fair. Our suggestion in that when tempers rise that you think about whether you want to win the fight or keep the relationship.

Although eHarmony may have gone too far in touting their services, the concept of online dating is sound and it is an excellent way to find the potential love of your life. But, then you need to work to develop and maintain a solid relationship. And that has nothing to do with online dating fake news.
